Art Goals 2026

We are halfway through 2026 and I am bubbling over with creative ideas like a volcano full of aliens and forest sprites. I have a personal record breaking backlog of unshared artwork that I keep rearranging in my saved files to no discernible end. This will not do.

I have gone through a heightened degree of personal growth between 2024 and now, trying many new things. I questioned if art truly brings me fulfillment or if I just heavily based my personality around it and would be happier doing something else.

Surprise! I would not.

On one hand art is like this abstract manifestation of thoughts and movements that happen spontaneously and cannot be tamed, and on the other hand I find myself doing repetitive things that CAN be measured and quantified.

The big change in my practice of 2025 was that I started tracking my time.

I started balancing obsession and self care, thinking really hard about longer term goals, and continuing my experiments with different mediums and online platforms.

For a long time I had the common artist mindset that I am “right brained” and therefore could never run a business.

But I do like puzzles.

It makes a lot more sense for me to start a business rather than hoard all this creative goodness in my shrinking living space. Also, as a childless part-timer who is too old to party hardy I’ve found myself with a lot of time on my hands.

So I have been haphazardly bumbling through the process of cramming all my chronically online knowledge into my site here for what feels like ages after identifying what was holding me back and fixing it.

When I say business I’m not referring to anything dramatic. The idea is the umbrella of “Molly Reusser Art” (with it’s minimalist aesthetic) will unite all of my projects in my online shop and blog. While this isn’t a revolutionary idea for many it was for me. I battle everyday with trying not to over-complicate life.

See Mollzifits (the time I tried making a Y2k POD hoodie brand), or Coziestbabe (the time I was going to focus on only crochet), or MagicalNorthwest (the time I was going to focus on only PNW botanical art), or the latest one- ThingZone (???)… 50% fine ideas, but better as shop collections not google email accounts.

It literally takes all my discipline NOT to put sparkly GIFs in these margins. Ugh. Now I’m thinking about it again.

But that’s what making a business is all about! Trail and error.

Right??

Maybe I’ll repurpose this look.

The core of the plan is this blog which outlines my collections and projects personal diary style (like in 2024) and we are just getting started with my monthly newsletter.
